Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata), high in alcohol and ester content, acts great as an anti-inflammatory, sedative, antiviral, and antidepressant. It is used widely to calm heart palpitations and ease the symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks. According to Salvatore Battaglia, “Ylang Ylang was found to be one of the most popular choices of essential oils in a clinical trial… to control epileptic seizures”. Ylang Ylang’s intensely sweet aroma can be absolutely intoxicating, and has been considered to be an aphrodisiac. *Be sure to use Ylang Ylang Essential Oil sparingly, as it can cause headache and nausea if used in excess.
For Nervousness and Anxiety:
Place 3-5 drops of Ylang Ylang Essential Oil on a cotton ball, place in a plastic bag and keep it in your purse or wallet. If you feel anxiety or panic coming on simply open the bag and inhale. This will help to slow your heart rate and breathing, and will balance your emotions.
Mix 6 drops Ylang Ylang Essential Oil, 5 drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil, and 3 drops Frankincense Essential Oil in 1oz of Jojoba Carrier Oil. Apply a few drops of the mixture to pressure points, wrists, and the back of the neck. This blend can also be worn during the day as a “perfume”.
For the Chakras:
Ylang Ylang is associated with the sacral and solar plexus chakras.
Ylang Ylang is cooling, induces euphoria, awakens sensuality, and is “Yin” energy.
Antidepressant: an agent that prevents or counteracts depression.
Antiseborrhoeic: Seborrhoea or Seborrhoeic Eczema is a condition caused by the malfunctioning of sebaceous glands, resulting in irregular sebum production and consequential infection of the epidermal cells. Ylang Ylang Essential Oil can be beneficial in curing the inflammation and controlling sebum production.
Antiseptic: a substance that inhibits the growth and reproduction of microorganisms.
Nervine: acts upon or affects the nerves; quiets nervous excitement.
Sedative: Calming, soothing, inducing sleep, tranquilizing.
Other Benefits: It can be used to cure infections in internal organs such as stomach, intestines, colon, and the urinary tract. It is also good for people suffering from insomnia, fatigue, frigidity, and other stress-related issues. It is extremely effective in maintaining moisture and oil balance of the skin.
