Vanilla Information:

The Essential Oil of Vanilla is extracted by solvent extraction of a resinous substance obtained from fermented Vanilla beans, or by steam distillation of the flowers. The vanilla plant is a creeper vine that grows mainly in Mexico and neighboring countries. Its main components are Acetic Acid, Caproic Acid, Eugenol, Furfural, Isobutyric Acid and Vanillin Hydroxybenzaldehyde.

Apart from its widespread use as a flavoring agent in the food and beverages, and in the culinary arts, the Essential Oil of Vanilla has been used for many medicinal purposes also.

Definitions:

Anticarcinogenic: inhibits or prevents the activity of a carcinogen (most known as cancer) or the development of carcinoma.

Antidepressant: an agent that prevents or counteracts depression.

Antioxidant: Any substance that acts to slow or prevent the oxidation of another chemical.
