Description of Lotus
The Pure Lotus Absolute, both white and pink, are actually cultivated and extracted in South India. The Pure Lotus Absolute is a very nice perfume ingredient.
The flowers of Lotus are used for ornament and as offerings in temples. Cut flowers stand transportation if picked as buds one or two days before opening. They were once used as a source of perfume, Lotus (Kamal) Perfume, which was highly prized; a popular present day lotus perfume is a blend of patchouli, benzoin and storax with phenylethyl and cinnamic alcohols. The honey from bees which visit lotus flowers is reported to possess tonic properties and considered useful for infections of the eye.
The Lotus flower is often viewed as a symbol of awakening. The reason is that while it grows in muddy ponds of sometimes stagnant water, it blossoms every day with the pre-morning sun.
Lotus is known for it's ability to calm and sooth. Users often feel more open to forgiveness and kindness.
Like some Frankincense, Sandalwood, Myrrh, Neem, and other oils, Lotus can be semi-solid at room temperature. Bottle should be placed in a hot water bath in order for absolute to liquefy.
Lotus has an exotic floral aroma with slightly herbaceous and medicinal top notes. It is important to note that all absolutes are extremely concentrated by nature. They should not be evaluated in this state unless you are accustomed to the undiluted fragrance. For those trying Absolutes for the first time, we strongly recommend they be evaluated in dilution. Otherwise, the complexity of the fragrance, particularly the rare and exotic notes, may be lost.
Lotus was sacred to Saraswati - the goddess of learning, knowledge, and wisdom.
The rarest of Lotus Blossoms (Blue Lotus) yields an ethereal absolute. Light, delicate in aroma, not as floral as the more common Pink or White Lotus Blossoms, but its effect on the spirit is amazing. A "must have" for anyone working with the chakras, doing energy work, or using the oils as a part of their spiritual journey. This celestial & obscure Lotus oil is renowned for spiritual growth, rejuvenation, clairvoyance, healing & balancing. Use this oil for any meditative perfume oil blends, sacred products, psychic development or candle anointing. It is said to produce a "feeling of joy that permeates the whole body, emanating from every cell" that is "delightfully wonderful and lasts for some time." The Blue Lotus provides a relaxing, euphoric sensation which helps to relieve muscle spasms. The Blue Lotus is a sedative. The Blue Lotus was sacred to the ancient Egyptians, as an ornamental and for its sweet smelling aroma. The Blue Lotus contain Aporphine, apomorphine, which is dopamine agonist, nuciferine which is an antispasmodic.
Nelumbo nucifera (Sacred Lotus Petals) have become etched in folklore because of a fabulous people who supposedly occupied the north coast of Africa and lived on the lotus, which brought forgetfulness and happy indolence. The Sacred Lotus flower was also what the Ulysses' crew smoked after coming ashore following years at sea. Similar in effect to the Sacred Blue Lily of the Nile, the Sacred Lotus is often steeped in wine or tea.
